Description: When parents are feeling that gap time would be beneficial for their student, but the student is not quite ready to commit, Gap Year Solutions offers hourly one-on-one student coaching sessions. We have found that there is no substitute for someone who is not the student’s parent to listen and offer real world perspectives in response to concerns the student is expressing.
Examples:
- A student is expressing serious symptoms of FOMO (Fear of Missing Out), which is common among soon-to-be high school graduates who would be on a different path than their friends. While conceptually the student agrees that gap time might be beneficial, they worry about taking a non-traditional path after high school.
- Parents have discussed the idea of a gap year with their student, but have “hit a wall” in terms of convincing their son or daughter that a gap year is a good idea. The student is open to spending time with Gap Year Solutions to learn more about possible experiences and benefits from gap time.
- A student is interested in taking a gap year, but only wants to spend it pursuing a fairly narrow activity (e.g., art, theater, sport, business, service, environmental). Before making a final “go” decision, the student would like more information about specific ways they can structure their gap year to meet their goals for this time.
Timing: Before or after Gap Year Solutions reviews gap year questionnaire with family.
Format: Zoom calls
Pricing: Hourly fee
Other: Payments are credited towards fee for Gap Year Planning Package, if student elects to move forward with full package.
